It's the opening weekend of whitewing season and Rocky's first dove hunt.

The young retriever is patiently waiting for his owner Mike Clore and son Jeffery to begin shooting.

Rocky's only eleven months old, but he is showing remarkable patience as he hears the distant shotgun blasts.

"Not quite a year, but he is a very enthusiastic hunting dog," said Rocky’s owner Mike Clore.

Jeffery drops the first whitewing with a perfect shot, and when Mike releases him, Rocky bursts after the fallen bird.

He has it spotted, and the youngster makes the retrieve just like a seasoned pro.

“He is being trained by Paul Cordova of La Paloma retrievers, and Paul is real excited about Rocky, the genetics that he has are just unbelievable. The mother is just a fantastic dog that has attained quite a few awards in the field trial arena," said Clore.

Throughout the afternoon hunt, Rocky sticks by Mike's side and never misses a retrieve.

Occasionally, the birds topple into the tall grass, and here Rocky excels at finding them where otherwise they would have been lost.

"Absolutely, young dog, we are going to have many more seasons with him. It's going to be a lot of fun," said Jeffery Clore.

"If he turns out half as good as his mother, he will be a fantastic dog," said Mike Clore.

It's been a great afternoon for Rocky, and he has the feathers in his mouth to prove it.

"Looking forward to many, many more years of hunting with old rocky," said Mike Clore.
