CAMERON COUNTY -- Former Brownsville mayor, Eddie Treviño, Jr. announces his candidacy for Cameron County judge.

The former mayor formally announced on Friday that he is seeking the office in the upcoming 2010 election.

Treviño first served as a city commissioner for Brownsville before running for the city's highest office.

In May of 2003, the voters of Brownsville overwhelmingly elected Treviño as their mayor.

He served his full term before turning his attention back to his law practice.

Carlos H. Cascos currently serves as the county judge and says he plans to run for re-election.
