Two Brownsville men are behind bars following a roundup of suspects in a drug case allegedly involving the violent Mexican gang the Zetas.
Federal court records show that John Anthony Lozano and Jose Emmanuel Sanchez were arrested under the authority of a federal indictment from Beaumont.
An executed arrest warrant shows that that Lozano was arrested at an apartment off Lindale Drive in Brownsville on Wednesday.
The case filed in Beaumont remained sealed Wednesday afternoon but the Brownsville court records show that Lozano was wanted in a marijuana trafficking case.
The Houston Chronicle reported that the two men and almost a dozen others from Houston and McAllen were arrested in a drug trafficking and money laundering sting.
The newspaper reported that a Houston firefighter was among those arrested.
Both Lozano and Sanchez remain in custody after appearing before U.S. Magistrate Court Judge Felix Recio on Wednesday morning.
U.S. Attorney's Office in Beaumont has not released a statement but the Houston Chronicle reported that the men are believed to have ties to the Zetas, a group formerly known as the enforcer arm for the feared Gulf Cartel.
