MCALLEN, TEXAS (AP) -- A U.S. citizen residing in Mexico has been sentenced to nearly four years in prison for attempting to smuggle a machine gun and an assault rifle into Mexico.

U.S. District Judge Randy Crane sentenced 31-year-old Serjio Agustin Nieto-Vazquez of Reynosa, Mexico, to 46 months in prison Wednesday.

Nieto-Vazquez pleaded guilty to attempting to export the weapons wrapped in a blanket behind the seat of his truck at the Pharr, Texas, port of entry in April.
