HARLINGEN, TEXAS -- Triple digit temperatures did not stop hundreds of girls from playing ball in Harlingen.
The Big Pony National Girls Softball Tournament is in full swing at the Wilson Sports Complex through August 2nd.
More than 120 softball teams from all over the nation are competing for the trophy.
Hotels are booked and city leaders said Tuesday the games are adding to the local economy.
"Our hotels get all the reservations from people from out of town," director Nydia Tapia explained. "Even neighboring cities like Brownsville and Weslaco. Of course, they also want to have a good time so they are shopping and eating out. It really has a ripple effect."
The public is encouraged to attend and support the players.
