MCALLEN, TEXAS -- The Food Bank RGV is preparing for it's 24-hour Sort-A-Thon.

The annual event allows residents to volunteer to help sort food for distribution.

This year, participants will be sorting items for hurricane boxes.

The event starts Friday afternoon, members from Shell helped out the food bank on Thursday.

"We are neighbors here and we have fields in town that we produce gas from all around the area," explained Maris Densmore with Shell.  "So we all feel like we need to be involved to help the community."

The Sort-A-Thon starts Friday at 6 p.m. and ends Saturday at 6 p.m.

Volunteers are still needed.

You can call the food bank or show up in person at 2601 Zinnia in McAllen.
