A 13-year old tells Action 4 News about the terrifying moment when his father and him were robbed by pseudo cops.
"I was scared, I didn't want to be in that moment," Miguel Angel Santos said as he explained that about eight individuals dressed as sheriff's deputies pulled them over for a traffic stop, but to their surprise, the imposters took several cases of jewelry and then abandoned them in a remote area near the Rio Grande.
"I felt like I couldn't do nothing at that moment, I was scared about my dad, what they would do for him, I was even scared of my mom because what if they had someday else at the house waiting for us," Miguel Angel said.
This incident is being worked by Palmview Police, but as Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño tells us they've had several pseudo cop home invasions as well, the most recent Thursday morning in the area of Mile 6 and Stewart Road.
"I'm advising the people you give up what they want. In the mean time I'm working with McAllen and Palmview Police Departments to try to determine the identities of those individuals," said Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño.
The Santos family is now trying to recover from this incident.
"They took everything, I don't know what we're going to do now because we don't have any reserves or money, nothing. We have two cars, we're paying the house, we don't know what we're going to do," Miguel Angel said.
Jose Angel Santos, Miguel's father, tells Action 4 News they lost all they had for a jewelry shop in San Juan, jewelry and money they had saved up over the last ten years.
"It's going to be hard to recover from this but I'm thankful nothing happened to my son."
