Mexican authorities are continuing to investigate a weekend gun battle outside the office of a Matamoros newspaper located blocks away from the American Consulate.

The El Milenio newspaper reported that the gun battle happened three soldiers and several civilians were injured around 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

El Milenio reported that the gun battle between soldiers and alleged drug dealers took place outside the El Bravo newspaper offices located at Calles Primera and Morelos.

The El Bravo offices are located blocks away from the American Consulate of Matamoros on Calles Primera and Azucena.

El Milenio reported that soldiers chased the armed men several blocks with the battle ending off Calle Republica de Cuba and Avenida Lauro Villar.

Officials have not released more information but the battle took place less than a week after a series of gun battles rocked the Tamaulipas border city last Tuesday.
