MCALLEN -- Hidalgo County hosted a Disaster Expo at the McAllen Convention Center called "Dare to Prepare.”
Over 1,600 people showed up to learn about what they can do to prepare themselves and families in the event of a disaster.
And, residents had the opportunity to learn about what to do in case of fires, hurricanes and even pandemic flu's.
Cari Lambrecht, Hidalgo County Communication spokesperson, said, "People are really enjoying themselves here and learning a lot about how they can prepare individually to make those important decisions. Like do I need to evacuate? Do I need to register with 2-11? What do I do with my pets during an evacuation?"
Lambrett said that "Dare to Prepare" has been such a success that Hidalgo County plans on doing it bigger and better next year.
