BROWNSVILLE -- Brownsville investigators say Aaron Delgado and his passenger, his girlfriend Lorraine Trevino , were traveling on Coffee Port Road when Aaron allegedly tried to overtake his friends vehicle but skid off the roadway and head on into a tree.

Police say the 21-year old driver was trying to pass up his friends in another car when he lost control and ultimately lost his life.

The Ford Mustang he was in was totalled and Aaron was pronounced dead at the scene.

His girlfriend sustained traumatic internal injuries and had to be hospitalized in San Antonio for special treatment.

Police say Delgado took the curve at a high rate of speed.

"There's a lot of curves on that road.  It's a 30 mile an hour speed zone and obviously speed was a factor," said Brownsville Police Sgt Jimmy Manrrique.

Police say another fatality happened on FM 511 this weekend and also involved a Ford Mustang.

Authorities are awaiting toxicology results to see if alcohol had anything to do with the accident.

For now, family and friends are mourning the loss of one young life while praying for another to pull through.
