Mexican authorities believe that grease accumulating in a kitchen exhaust system caused a fire at a popular restaurant for American tourists in Reynosa.

The Metro Noticias de Tamaulipas newspaper reported the fire at the La Fogata restaurant in its online edition Wednesday.

The newspaper reported that the fire took placed after the restaurant closed 11 p.m. Tuesday.

About 20 employees were reportedly evacuated from the building.

Metro Noticias de Tamaulipas reported that the kitchen fire was quickly put under control.

Investigators believe grease accumulating in the exhaust system had caused the fire.

According to La Fogata website, La Fogata opened in 1985 at the corner of Calles Matamoros and J.B. Chapa in downtown Reynosa.

The restaurant is a popular destination for American tourists to eat cabrito and other Mexican cuisine.
