A jailed immigrant who had to be force fed to save his life has ended his hunger strike and has resumed eating.

Federal officials and defense attorneys filed a motion on Monday to dismiss a case filed against Haitian immigrant Kenson Lima.

Immigration officials requested an emergency order to hospitalized and intravenously force feed the 26-year-old immigrant last week.

A motive was never released but Lima had been on a hunger strike while jailed at the Port Isabel Detention Center.

Lima collapsed while taking a shower prompting immigration officials to rush the jailed immigrant to the Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Immigration officials said Lima was uncooperative with doctors prompting them to ask for an order to force feed him intravenously.

U.S. District Judge Hilda signed an order that allowed officials perform the intravenous feeding and to monitor Lima’s vital signs.

Attorneys were scheduled to meet about the case on Monday afternoon but attorneys on both sides of the case filed a motion to dismiss the case on Monday morning.

According to a copy of the motion obtained by Action 4 News, Lima’s health has improved and he has resumed eating.

Court records show that Lima's deportation case remains pending.

The Haitian immigrant came to the United States legally in 2003 but was placed for deportation after being arrested in domestic violence case in Florida.

U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials released the following statement in the case:

"On July 1, the U. S. District Court in Brownsville, Texas, granted a Temporary Restraining Order instructing that a suitably trained medical professional is authorized to monitor Mr. Lima's vital signs and administer whatever intravenous fluids are deemed necessary to prevent life-threatening dehydration.  The order expires on Monday, July 6, 2009."

"On July 2, Mr. Lima resumed eating on a regular basis.  Mr. Lima is currently at the Port Isabel Detention Center under the care of the Division of Immigration Health Services."
