RIO GRANDE VALLEY -- For those of you traveling for the 4th of July, the Department of Public Safety wants you to know they'll be watching.
Troopers say, last year in Texas, they arrested 700 drunk drivers, gave 12-thousand speeding tickets and 3-thousand seat belt violations.
They say this year, to help reduce those numbers, they've increased highway patrol.
"Everybody's working. We have no days off. This is our holiday period where we want to reduce fatalities, increase enforcement, and more patrol. That's what it boils down to," Hernandez explans.
Hernandez adds they want people to have a good time this weekend, just be responsible.
