A Brownsville baby is clinging to life at a local hospital after nearly drowning in a bathtub.

Brownsville police told Action 4 News the incident took place at an apartment of Palm Boulevard and Jackson Street around 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Investigators said the 8-month-old boy’s mother was giving the baby a bath when she stepped out of the bathroom.

Police said the woman returned to the bathroom to find the baby boy drowning prompting her to call 911.

The 8-month-old was rushed to the nearby Valley Baptist Medical Center of West Jefferson Boulevard where the boy is listed on life support.

Investigators took the mother to the Brownsville Police Department.

No charges had been filed against her while police continue to investigate the case.
