A Reynosa man is behind bars after he allegedly tried to smuggle $640,000 worth of cocaine at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested Mauricio Cervantes-Diaz on federal drug smuggling charges on Monday.

Customs officers said the 20-year-old Reynosa man drove up to the Pharr bridge in a  2007 Dodge Caliber.

A routine inspection with a K-9 officer revealed seven packages with 20 pounds of cocaine hidden in the car’s firewall.

Cervantes-Diaz remains in custody where he is facing federal drug charges.
