Border Patrol agents deflated the plans of alleged smugglers using inflatable rafts to run marijuana from Boca Chica to the Brownsville Ship Channel.

Federal court records show that Border Patrol agents arrested Miguel Angel Hernandez-Del Angel and Javier Medina-Obregon on marijuana smuggling charges on Wednesday.

The two men allegedly took off from the north shore of the Rio Grande River and were headed to the Brownsville Ship Channel when they spotted by area surveillance cameras.

The Border Patrol agents intercepted the two rafts and seized 12 bundles of marijuana weighing more 700 pounds with an estimated street value of more than $561,000 dollars.

Both Hernandez-Del Angel and Medina-Obregon appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Ronald Morgan in Brownsville where they were ordered held without bond until a hearing on Wednesday.
