FALFURRIAS, TEXAS -- U.S. Border Patrol Agents seized roughly $7 million worth of drugs at the Falfurrias checkpoint.

The discovery involved 8,800 pounds of pot.

Agents first discovered 6,200 pounds of marijuana hidden in a tractor trailer carrying appliances.

Then, a K-9 unit sniffed out more drugs and agents found dozens more bundles of marijuana inside.

"That shows how much the narcotics trafficking organizations are trying to get drugs into the country and how much our agents are trying to detect, deter and apprehend these narcotics," said Border Patrol Spokesman John Lopez.

The U.S. Border Patrol reports a 120 percent increase in drug seizures this year compared to last year.
