A crew member from a shipping barge is recovering in the hospital after suffering a heart attack and being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard near Port Mansfield.
Coast Guard officials told Action 4 News that the rescue took place after 9:30 p.m. Monday.
A crew member of the Pacific Horizon suffered a heart attack while the barge was 20 miles off the shore of Port Mansfeld.
A Coast Guard rescue helicopter was dispatched from Corpus Christi.
The helicopter landed on the barge, picked up the crewmember and safely transported him to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in Corpus Christi.
The man's condition is currently unknown at this time.
