A Rio Grande Valley soldier will be honored in a special ceremony on the anniversary of his death.
U.S. Army Spc. Alex D. Gonzalez whom was killed in action during Operation Iraqi Freedom last year.
The Mission native was laid to rest in May 2008 with full military honors.
The City of Mission is holding a special remembrance ceremony for him at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery on Wednesday, May 6th at 1 p.m.
Members from Gonzalez’ unit in Fort Hood are expected to attend the event.
Both the visiting soldiers and family members will also visit the Mission Historical Museum to view the special Military Exhibit at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
A street dedication had also been set for 4 p.m. Wednesday in honor of U.S. Army Sgt. Javier Marin, Jr.
That event has been rescheduled at the request of the family and will be hosted on May 16th during Armed Forces Day.
