A judge has denied bond for a 22-year-old man accused of killing a San Benito musician.
San Benito police arrested Manuel Peña for the death of 84-year-old Ramon Piñon.
Police believe Peña broke into Piñon's home on Sunday morning and attacked the bedridden man to steal electronics.
Piñon died from his injuries but investigators clues lead them to Peña, who only lived a couple of blocks away.
Peña was arraigned on Tuesday morning where he was denied bond.
Investigators said Peña has prior arrests for burglary and is a member of a gang known as the "Vallucos."
It's still not clear if Peña worked alone or had help during the crime.
Family and friends of Peña, a beloved conjunto singer/songwriter, said they continue to search for closure.
Relatives said Piñon had 14 children and mentored Tejano music legend Freddy Fender.
Funeral services for Piñon will be held on Wednesday.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. through 2 p.m. Wednesday at the San Benito Funeral Home on the corner of Williams Road and Business 77.
Funeral services will follow at the Monte Meta Cemetery.
The public is invited.
