Plano 3, Brownsville Lopez 1

GEORGETOWN (AP) -- Tim Williams' goal put Plano ahead late in the first half and the Wildcats won a record sixth boys state soccer championship Saturday night, beating Brownsville Lopez 3-1 for the Class 5A title.

Plano (25-3-5) fell behind when Jorge Cantu scored for Brownsville Lopez 12 minutes into the match, but the Wildcats answered a minute later on a goal from Joe Denton.

Williams scored with 3:05 left in the half, converting in front of the Brownsville Lopez goal on a pass from Ryan McDuff.

Plano's Zach Balthazar scored the only goal of the second half on a pass from Ryan Brown with 13:05 remaining.

The Wildcats won three straight championships from 1991-93 and added titles in 1995 and 2000.

Brownsville Lopez (21-2-0) had a 21-match winning streak snapped.
