Cameron County Democrat Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa testified against a bill requiring Texas voters to bring a photo ID to the polls.

Earlier this week, the Hidalgo County public watchdog group OWLS spoke in favor the controversial bill.

They argued the bill was needed to reduce voter fraud.

But Hinojosa told the Rio Grande Guardian that he disagrees.

He is one of more than 300 people signed up to testify on the voter ID bill.

"A 72-year-old woman who's going to go vote and has voted all her life without a voter ID, just with her voter registration card and she can't vote without a voter ID is just going to turn around and walk out and she isn't going to vote," Hinojosa said.

This story comes from our media partner, the Rio Grande Guardian.
