A controversial bill requiring Texas voters to show photo ID at the polls has been given two days for testimony.

Opponents say they believe requiring a photo ID will disenfranchise the elderly and minorities.

But the OWLS public watchdog group from Hidalgo County say the bill will cut down on voter fraud.

"Actually there is absolutely nothing wrong with people having a picture ID," a member of the OWLS said. "You've got to have it in Mexico to vote. You've got to have it to cash a check. You have got to have it to go to Sam's."

The group told the Rio Grande Guardian that it backs the voter ID bill after going to Progreso where they heard about alleged voter fraud in local elections.
