Brownsville Police busted a group of people who allegedly used counterfeit bills at the flea market. BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS --
A vendor at the 77 Flea Market called police after receiving a fake bill on Saturday.
The vendor told police the counterfeiters would go from stand to stand, buying goods with fake bills.
They allegeldy used walkie-talkies to make sure they didn't hit the same place twice.
"They were buying cheap things with fake money, say a $20 bill, and then getting the money back to keep for themselves," said Sgt. Jimmy Mannrique.
An officer arrested the five suspects in the parking lot of the flea market.
Investigators have advised all business owners to check for counterfeit cash, especially on bills $20 and over.
