The La Joya Police Department has put a $150,000 federal grant to use.
LA JOYA, TEXAS --
The department was awarded the funds to help fight border crimes.

The La Joya Police Chief said Monday some of the money is going to pay for overtime costs associated with the crackdown.

He also bought two new police SUV's, fully loaded and able to run surveillance.

"We're right in the middle of human smuggling and drug trafficking," explained Chief Jose Luis Del Angel.  "This grant will help in our territory and allow us to better patrol our area."
