BROWNSVILLE, TEXAS -- A Southmost man is recovering in the hospital after a shooting in his front yard Monday night.

Brownsville police said Julio Cardenas was on Calle Milpa Verde when Danny Morales and another man approached him and started arguing.

The argument involved an SUV that Cardenas had repossessed from Morales.

Police said Morales and his friend began chasing Cardenas and shot him in the leg.

Patrol officers arrested Morales shortly after the incident.

Investigators said Morales will be charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

"It's a highly populated area and there's a lot of businesses, a lot of residents here, a very dangerous situation that could have easily had at least one homicide," said Sgt. Jimmy Manrrique.  "They lucked out."

Police continue their search for the other suspect.
