RIO GRANDE VALLEY, TEXAS -- The federal government has issued a warning against a potential scam for those applying for jobs with its agencies.

The U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are both recruiting right now.

However, a bogus phone call is telling applicants in the Rio Grande Valley that in order to be hired you must pay a thousand dollars.

Customs spokesman Felix Garza said the phone call is a scam.

"An applicant can file his application free of charge.  We do not charge, and hopefully never will charge a fee, especially for those seeking work with the federal government," said Garza.
