MISSION, TEXAS -- A new comfort room at Mission Police Department aims to make young victims of crime more comfortable around police.

The new room is now open in Mission.

The Mission Rotary Club raised $10,000 dollars in a recent golf tournament.

Then, they used the money to create the safe haven for children, which includes toys, toiletries and furniture.

"Instead of victimizing them over and over again, we felt this would be the perfect place," explained Diana Macias, Mission Police Victims Advocate.  "They're already here giving us statements and this place is a neutral place, where they won't have to go out to get the services."

The comfort room was named in memory of Chief Leo Longoria's daughter, Amanda, who died in a car crash.
