Mexico captures high-level Sinaloa Cartel leader

MEXICO CITY (AP) -- Mexico says it has captured the son of one of the country's top drug lords.

The Mexican attorney general's office says Vicente Zambada served as head of operations and security for the country's most powerful drug gang, the Sinaloa cartel.

His father, Ismael Zambada, was arrested last year in Mexico City.

Officials say the elder Zambada was a Sinaloa cartel leader who helped smuggle cocaine and methamphetamines through the Mexico City airport.

The younger Zambada was arrested Wednesday in an exclusive Mexico City neighborhood.

Officials announced the arrest Thursday at a news conference.
