RIO HONDO, TEXAS -- Two Rio Grande Valley police departments have offered to donate bullet proof vests to Rio Hondo police officers who have been working without the life-saving equipment.
This is an update to a story Action 4 News brought you last week.
A Rio Hondo police officer, who wished to remain anonymous, said he couldn't afford the $750 body armor on his pay, which is $9 an hour.
Since Action 4's report, Brownsville and San Benito Police Departments have stepped forward to help out.
Interim Rio Hondo Police Chief Charles Lopez said he is grateful for the kind gesture.
Lopez added that his department will purchase new body armor for officers sometime soon.
