Former Dallas Cowboys Quarterback Quincy Carter is expected to post bond on marijuana and DWI charges some time Friday afternoon.
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) state troopers arrested Carter during a traffic stop off U.S. Expressway 83 in the Mission area around 2 a.m. Friday.
DPS spokeswoman Tela Mange told the Associated Press that Carter's blood-alcohol level tested at 0.14, nearly two times the legal limit of 0.08.
Authorities told Action 4 News that investigators found less than two ounces of marijuana inside his car.
Carter was held overnight at the Mission City Jail but arraigned on possession of marijuana and DWI charges at the Hidalgo County Jail on Friday morning.
A magistrate judge set bond a tofal of $1,000.
Carter is expected to post bond some time Friday afternoon.
Action 4 News cameras are there waiting to talk to Carter upon his release.
Carter played as a quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys but was forced to leave the NFL due to alleged drug use.
The former NFL player switched to arena football and played briefly for the Kansas City Brigade.
The Rio Grande Valley Dorados signed Carter for their 2009 season.
But Arena Football 2 officials ruled on Tuesday that that he can't play because of league eligibility issues.
