A Wind Advisory is in effect from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. for the following counties:  Cameron, Willacy and Kenedy.

A Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds are forecast to be 30 to 39 mph along with frequent gusts ranging between 40 to 57 mph.

A Red Flag Warning is in effect today from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. for the entire Rio Grande Valley.

The National Weather Service issued the Red Flag Warning due to a weather pattern of high pressure in the Gulf of Mexico interacting with low pressure near the Texas panhandle.

This interaction will create a tight pressure gradient and increase winds across the eastern sections of Deep South Texas from now until Friday.

On Thursday through Friday, winds increase from the south 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 45 mph.

A Red Flag Warning means critical fire weather conditions are occurring now or will shortly occur.

Winter-cured grasses and drought stressed vegetation will be particularly susceptible to ignition in these windy conditions.

A Fire Weather Watch is also in effect for the same area on Friday.

This watch will likely be upgraded to a Red Flag Warning during the next 24 hours.

Strong winds and dry weather are expected to occur again on Friday.

A Small Craft Advisory remains in effect for offshore waters along the lower Texas coast and coastal waters until late Thursday night and the Laguna Madre until this evening.
