LA JOYA, TEXAS -- The U.S. Border Patrol honored fourteen Rio Grande Valley students at the head of the class on Tuesday.
The high school students were recognized for their work in the classroom, involvement in extracurricular activities and staying drug free.
Their teachers and counselors nominated them.
The kids then had to write an essay about their strengths and weaknesses.
"This recognition will aid them throughout their career. It will give them an accolade for the university acceptance, or for whatever educational field they may seek," said U.S. Border Patrol spokesman John Lopez. "This also serves as a way that we recognize them as a private sector of the U.S. Border Patrol."
