An elderly man has been formally charged with the death of an 11-year-old Bluetown girl.

State troopers said Valerie Garcia was killed while trying to board a school bus on Tuesday morning.

Investigators said 73-year-old Arturo Martinez Reyes ignored the school bus' stop sign and ran into the girl.

Garcia was transported to a local hospital where she died.

State troopers charged him with criminal negligent homicide.

Reyes remains jailed on Thursday morning.
