MERCEDES -- Three Mercedes men were sentenced for more than two years to nine years in federal prison for their roles in ambushing and carjacking a Good Samaritan.The alleged incident happend in July 2007 when the Good Samaritan stopped to help a woman who said she ran out of gas off FM 491 in Mercedes.
The Good Samaritan was ambushed by 20-year-old Alfredo Rodriguez Jr., 22-year-old Jose De La Luz Reyna and 20-year-old Aaron Ortiz when they got back to the car.
The group beat the victim with a ball-peen hammer as well as their hands and feet.
FBI agents and Mercedes police tracked down the suspects.
The three suspects pleaded guilty in October 2008 but they appeared before U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo Hinojosa for sentencing on Wednesday.
Rodridguez was sentenced to seven years, De La Luz Reyna was sentenced to nine year and Ortiz was sentenced to two years and three months in federal prison.
