Rio Grande City police officer fired for alleged gun incident

Action 4 News has learned that a Rio Grande City police officer was fired after he allegedly got caught firing a gun on New Year's Eve.

Jorge Luis Salazar was detained by Roma police after a group of concerned citizens called to complain about a shooting in a residential area.

Investigators found the gun used in the incident and learned that it was Salazar who fired it.

Officials with the Rio Grande City Police Department told Action 4 News that they fired Salazar becuase of their zero tolerance policy against that type of behavior.

Authorities said that Salazar was given a fine of $500 for each shot fired into the air.
