The City of McAllen is trying to bring Times Square to the Rio Grande Valley.

Food, local entertainment and even a six-to seven foot tall metal ball with more than 400 lights will be at a citywide event on New Year's Eve.

City officials said they will be celebrating their first-ever New Year's Eve bash along 17th Street on Wednesday night.

Organizers told Action 4 News that the best part about the party is that it's free.

"We want to make it a little bit different then everybody else and have an impact on our community and making McAllen the designated place," one organizer said.

The party starts one Wednesday at 7 p.m. and goes until 1 a.m. Thursday.
