MCALLEN -- It was a chilling confession in a double homicide.

A 17-year-old murder suspect allegedly confessed to family members that he fatally stabbed an elderly McAllen man and his female roomate multiple times.

Police arrested Rogelio Martinez, Jr. for the capital murders of 70-year-old Guillermo David Guerra and 35-year-old Dahlila Flores over the weekend.

Firefighters found their bodies inside their burning South 8th Street apartment early Saturday morning.

Neighbors told police the Guerra and Flores were roommates.

Martinez and Flores were allegedly involved romantically and he stayed at the apartment from time to time but neighbors described the couple's relationship as "rocky".

"Through the investigation it was determined that this person did reside there to some extent, did go there, and did stay there at night," said McAllen Police Department spokesman Armando Contreras.  "Neighbors, everybody else knew him and through the investigation we contacted a lot of people and they were able to provide this information."

Police said Martinez took Guerra's car and cell phone prompting them to upgrade murder charges to capital murder.

Investigators eventually tracked Martinez down to a relative's home in McAllen.

According to court documents, Martinez came home with bloody clothes and told several family members what he had done.

"I had to keep stabbing them, they wouldn't die," he allegedly told one family member.

Martinez appeared before a judge on Monday where he received $2 million dollars in bonds for capital murder charges.

If convicted, Martinez faces up to life in prison or even the death penalty.
