Mission police spent part of Thursday morning chasing a pig that was killed after wandering onto U.S. Expressway 83.

Police told Action 4 News that the incident happened on U.S. Expressway 83 and Conway Avenue around 9:30 a.m. Thursday.

Investigators said they did not know where the pig came from but discovered it wandering onto the busy highway.

Authorities were trying to catch the pig when it wandered into traffic and was hit and killed by a passing motorist.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured and not cited in the accident.

Animal control officials were called to the scene to remove the pig's carcass.

Police are searching for the animal's owner.
