Sales tax receipts over the past few weeks show retailers, restaurants, and hotels and motels in McAllen are having a decent holiday season.

Officials said much of it is due to the influx of Mexican consumers doing their Christmas shopping on this side of the border.

But for the year so far, sales tax revenue is barely keeping up with last year's take.

Nancy Millar with the McAllen Convention and Visitors Bureau reports that Mexican shoppers are playing a big role in helping to stifle the impact of the recession in deep South Texas.
