A Harlingen woman issued a Call 4 Action after being evicted right before Thanksgiving.
Roeda Ashley thought owner-financing and a rent-to-own option would provide a permanent roof over her family's head.
"Instead of the bank loaning you the money, the owner is getting the money," Ashley said. "It's like a lease, like if you were buying to lease."
Ashley paid $1,000 a month for her dream home off Bowie Avenue in Harlingen but now her family is being evicted days before Thanksgiving.
The Harlingen woman said problems started to mount just months after moving into the house.
"The hot water quit working and then the half of the electricity in the house went out and then we started getting shocked every time we touched the electrical cord," she said.
Ashley and her family were served this week with an eviction notice giving them 24 hours to get out of the house.
The homeowner refused to talk on camera but said said Ashley was behind on payments.
Ashley said the owner's bogus warranty is behind it all.
"And if there’s anything that goes wrong excluding the pool if anything goes wrong, it is covered by the warranty," she said.
Ashley claims she paid $50,000 in repairs while the owner never forked over one red cent.
She said the owner is allowed to manipulate the system because of the way they financed the home leaving her two kids and a sick grandmother with no where to call home.
