TOKYO (AP) -- Barack Obama's election victory has touched off celebrations all over the world.
In a congratulatory note, French President Nicolas Sarkozy told Obama his victory has raised hopes in France, Europe, and the rest of the world.
Obama's being called an inspiration in Bangkok, with one man saying he is "the first truly global U.S. president." He notes Obama's Asian childhood, African parentage, and Middle Eastern name.
People across Africa stayed up all night or woke before dawn to watch the results come in. It'll be a public holiday in Kenya tomorrow, as that country celebrates Obama's Kenyan roots.
But in the Middle East, some Muslims are skeptical about Obama's ability to alter America's foreign policy, while some Israelis fear Obama will prove an ally to the Palestinians.
