MCALLEN -- Losing your child is every parent's nightmare.
Boggus Ford teamed up with Lifeprint on Saturday to make sure Valley parents are prepared for the worst.
"You never want anything to happen to your children, but if anything does, you want to have a headstart on it," said parent Marisa Rodriguez.
That's just what experts spent the weekend doing.
Lifeprint packages use digital fingerprinting and home DNA kits along with high resolution photographs. All to arm parents with a valuable tool, just in case the worst ever happens.
"You can hand that to authorities and within sixty seconds, they can have that all over the U.S. already," said Sales Manager Billy Guerra.
Jane Ohmann said she couldn’t miss the opportunity.
"Just in case something ends up happening, the FBI is working on it," she said. "Every law enforcement agency is working on it."
Her and her two children waited in line to get their free kits.
Before getting fingerprinted and photographed the family visited McAllen's fire safety house also set up at Boggus Ford.
McAllen Fire Department Lt. Daniel Alaniz said preschool children and older adults are most at risk for fire danger and they got the perfect audience at Saturday’s event.
"We brought our fire safety house, talking to children about the importance of fire safety," Alaniz explained.
Parents also got safety tips and lessons from firefighters. Certified fire fighters installed seats and with the help of Boggus Ford, they replaced any out of code.
"If we find any car seat involved in a car crash or it has a recall, we automatically replace it," said Alaniz.
Boggus Ford hosts the event each year. Sales manager Billy Guerra says its well worth it. "If we can save one life out of this event, it will be everything worthwhile," he said.
