Facebook posts put Panama Unit officer back in jail

An officer with the disgraced Panama Unit task force is back behind bars thanks to a series of Facebook posts.

Fabian Rodriguez appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos in McAllen on Thursday morning.

Judge Ramos revoked his bond due to Facebook posts between him and the brother of a co-defendant.

Rodriguez is one of four former members of the Panama Unit facing federal drug charges.

Federal prosecutors allege that Rodriguez and the others took bribes to escort drug loads.

The other defendants include Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Treviño's son Jonathan Treviño and Hidalgo Police Chief Rudy Espinoza's son Alexis Espinoza.

Also facing charges is former Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office Deputy Gerardo Duran.

According to prosecutors, Rodriguez communicated with Jonathan Treviño's brother Carlos on Facebook.

Federal court records show that Rodriguez was released on bond but ordered not to have contact with co-defendants, witnesses or anyone else associated with the case.

Although Jonathan had been on strict house arrest, a federal judge recently granted him permission to attend Carlos' wedding this coming weekend.
