A shooting outside an elementary school in Harlingen remains under investigation.

Harlingen police said a woman shot herself during a sudden nervous breakdown outside Travis Elementary School on Tuesday.

Investigators told Action 4 News that a man and woman involved in this incident have no direct links to this school.

But police said the man is a vendor at the school and was conducting business there.

That's when his ex-girlfriend showed up and shot herself once in the stomach.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting, but police said the man had no part in the woman's decision to shoot herself.

According to police, the investigation continues into how a gun got on school grounds...

Police add the woman did survive the gunshot wound and is in stable condition.

No students were on school grounds at the time of the incident.
