Two men from Nuevo Leon are behind bars in the Rio Grande Valley after they allegedly tried to smuggle $4.5 million dollars worth of cocaine into the United States.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers arrested 45-year-old Rolando Cavazos-Milan and 36-year-old Andres Martinez-Elizondo on Sunday.

Federal court records show that Cavazos-Milan drove up to the Anzalduas International Bridge in a Honda Odyssey with Nuevo Leon license plates at 11:58 a.m. Sunday.

Customs officers sent him to secondary inspection where authorities allegedly found 31 packages with 83 pounds of cocaine hidden inside his car.

Some five and a half hours later, Martinez-Elizondo drove up to the same bridge in a Honda CRV with Nuevo Leon license plates.

Customs officers reported finding 28 packages with 75.5 pounds of cocaine inside his car.

Court records show that Martinez-Elizondo and Cavazos-Milan had the same contact's telephone number on their cell phones.

Both men appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dorina Ramos in McAllen on Monday morning.

Judge Ramos denied bond for both of them until a hearing this coming Monday.
