Elections might've ended last week for much of the United States but a mistake could mean a new outcome for the Hidalgo ISD school board.

That mistake stirred up a bit of a ruckus in the small border town.

Hidalgo County Elections Department administrators said the mistake may change the outcome for a Hidalgo ISD school board race candidate.

Election Administrator Yvonne Ramon told Action 4 News that the mix up happened because of an error on the maps given to the county.

The maps allegedly showed the wrong boundary for the Sharyland and Hidalgo school districts.

Ramon said those living in the Granjeno area should've voted in the Sharyland ISD election and not the Hidalgo ISD election.

All 60 plus votes are now in question.

Ramon said there are two options: 1) they can do a recount of the votes or 2) they can contest the election.

Under the second option, a legal to be filed with the Hidalgo County District Clerk’s Office.

A visiting district state judge will have to come in and listen to what has transpired.

That judge will make a decision on how to proceed.

The outcome could change the outcome of the Hidalgo ISD Place 4 race.

Winner Norma Garza-Torres could lose her spot to incumbent Mentor Cantu.

Hidalgo ISD is holding a special school board meeting at 6:30 p.m. tonight to discuss the issue.
