A Donna man is dead after armed men shot him in the head during a Sunday night home invasion.

The Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office confirms it all happened at a home on the 3300 block of Stites Road around 11:20 p.m. Sunday.

Investigators told Action 4 News reported that 37-year-old Jesus Leal is dead after being shot in the head.

Deputies said three or four armed men stormed the home and found Leal and his wife in the hallway.

According to witnesses, one of the gunmen asked, "Where are you?”

One of the gunmen allegedly ordered the couple to the floor and then shot Leal at least one time in the head.

The gunmen left in a green 2000 model Chevy type suburban.  The suburban reportedly had a black brush guard.

Family members took Leal to Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco where he later died.

Sheriff Lupe Treviño said an autopsy has been ordered while deputies continue to search for the suspects.

“Judging from the suspects' actions, it is believed that the gunmen came to the residence specifically seeking Mr. Jesus Leal," Sheriff Treviño said in a statement. "There were no demands for drugs, money, or other items."

Investigators reported that Leal has one conviction for possession of controlled substance where he served 60 days on a state jail felony.

Deputies said Leal was an illegal alien who was deported in 2010 after the drug conviction.

Investigators are working with federal law enforcement agencies to determine if Leal has any history with them.
