A Harlingen man is facing criminal charges after being arrested in connection to the gunpoint robbery of a popular restaurant.

Harlingen police arrested 22-year-old Juan Angel Valadez on an aggravated robbery charge on Wednesday.

Investigators said Valadez is accused in the robbery the El Pato restaurant off South 77 Sunshine Strip.

Police said an armed man with panty hose over his head entered the store around 8:05 a.m. Wednesday demanding cash.

The suspect fled north with $367 dollars in cash and allegedly threw the gun in a nearby canal.

Investigators said police followed clues to a home off North Parkwood Avenue where they found Valadez, a burnt panty hose and other evidence.

Valadez appeared before a Harlingen Municipal Court judge where he was issued a $100,000 dollar bond.
