Mission police are searching a canal in hopes of finding a 17-year-old who has been missing since December.

Aaron Juan Garcia’s mother said she last saw her son on Dec. 6 behind her house on the 2000 block of Washington Ave.

Authorities said the teen had gotten in a fight with his family and ran up towards the canal bank.

Garcia’s family said they did not stop him because he has runaway before.

The teen’s mother did not file an official missing person’s report until Jan. 3.

Family and friends of Garcia are being questioned, but no one has seen him since. Authorities have checked his phone records and his Facebook page remains untouched.

Police are searching that canal on Texas 495 and Los Ebanos. They believe the teen may have fallen in.

They are also looking for other clues that may lead to where Garcia is.

Anyone with information on Aaron’s whereabouts can contact Mission Crime Stoppers at 581-8477
